We are looking for a motivated and safety‑conscious individual to join us as a Health Physics Monitor Apprentice, working within our Health Physics team as part of the wider Site Operations department.

 

As an apprentice, you will play a key role in supporting operational safety on the NWS Low Level Repository site. Health Physics Monitoring forms part of our Site Operations department and involves using specialist instruments to carry out radiological monitoring. The measurements you take help our team provide essential radiological protection advice.

Job Description

 

As a Health Physics Monitor Apprentice, you will learn how to:

 

  • Use specialist instruments to monitor radiation dose rates and contamination levels across the site.
  • Support work activities where radiation and contamination have been identified as hazards.
  • Monitor personnel who work in radiological areas.
  • Respond to alarms and assist in emergency arrangements.
  • Accurately record, interpret, and report radiological measurements to support safe site operations.

 

This role is critical to ensuring our site operates safely every day. You’ll gain hands‑on experience working alongside highly skilled professionals who will support your development throughout the apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

 

Typically, candidates will have achieved grade C or above in at least five GCSE’s including English and Maths.

Please note: all of our roles will require the successful applicant to achieve BPSS Security Clearance. Some of our roles may require a higher level of clearance to be achieved. If this is required, this will be detailed in the Job Requirements section. If the role requires higher level of National Security Vetting, applicants must typically have 5 or 10 years continuous residency. Factors such as your nationality, any nationalities you may have previously held, and your place of birth can restrict the level of clearance you’re able to achieve.
